The White House
Five floors above the valley, every one with a balcony facing the Dhauladhar

8 photographs supplied by the property.
The White House stands on the edge of Holta, a few minutes north-east of Palampur, on the residential side of town where the Indian Veterinary Research Institute and the agricultural university sit. It is a new building — five storeys, white, under a slate roof, with a balcony running across every floor and covered parking underneath.
What the photographs show, and what is hard to find in Palampur town itself, is the outlook. The land in front drops away into fields, so the Dhauladhar sits unobstructed across the whole northern horizon rather than appearing in a gap between two buildings. Every floor faces it.

The area
What Holta is like
Holta sits a few kilometres north-east of Palampur on the road towards Chandpur, and it is defined by what was built here rather than by tourism. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute’s regional station, the CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University campus and an army cantonment all sit within a couple of kilometres of each other, which gives the area good roads, reliable power and a settled, residential character that most of the valley’s villages do not have.
Quiet, orderly and unusually well-serviced for a village. You are close enough to Palampur to be there in ten minutes, and far enough out that the Dhauladhar fills the window rather than a neighbour’s wall.
Good for
- Longer stays
- Families
- Mountain views
- Working visitors
Watch out for
- It is residential, not a tourist strip — eat in Palampur or where you are staying.
- Parts of the cantonment are restricted. Stay on the public roads.
