About
Where to stay in the Kangra valley, area by area
Palampur Properties lists every place to stay we can find between the Sulah valley and Chauntra, and connects travellers to the people who run them. We hold no rooms, take no payment from travellers, and cannot be paid for a ranking.
Why this exists
Search for somewhere to stay in Palampur and you will find the same forty properties across a dozen booking sites, all with the same photographs and none of the information that decides whether a stay works. Meanwhile the two-room homestay in Chandpur that would have been perfect appears nowhere, because its owner runs the business on WhatsApp and has never heard of a channel manager.
This site starts from the opposite end. We cover the whole valley area by area, give every owner a free page they control, and put travellers in touch with them directly.
Where the data comes from
Our starting catalogue is built from OpenStreetMap, the open map database that anyone can edit, under its ODbL licence. That gives us 18 area guides as of 2026-08-30. The map positions are theirs; the distances, area assignments and everything written about each area are ours.
We are adding to it continuously as owners claim and complete their pages, and as we cover more of the valley on the ground.
How we make money
- Annual subscriptions from owners who want a verified, editable page.
- Clearly labelled advertising placed beside listings, from ₹999 a month.
- Commission from properties when an enquiry we passed on becomes a booking.
Travellers pay us nothing, at any point.
How we work
- Every property in the belt is welcome, whether or not it ever pays us.
- Owners keep control of their own page, their rates and their guests.
- Travellers pay us nothing and deal with the property directly.
- Area guides are written from the ground, not assembled from press releases.
- Advertising is clearly marked wherever it appears.
